The robots I dreamed about as a kid did not write books for me, draw my pictures, or act in my plays.

Art, whether it's the Mona Lisa or trashy reality television, is how humans express their truth to other humans. It is a practice as old as humanity and is foundational to our society.​ The commoditization of art is also as old as humanity. But never before could we exploit so much from so many.

When we stand opposed to AI in film we are not talking about rejecting technology as out-of-touch luddites. AI and ML have already permeated almost every aspect of film production, whether it is in aggregating data for market research or fixing dead pixels in raw footage. Using technology to make our jobs as artists easier is welcome. Using it to replace our jobs as artists is not.

The line is not against technology or even AI. The line is against generative AI creating art by training on the art of others to do so.

​

We will not use generative AI to create our movies, our sets, our actors, our music, our sound effects, our scripts, or anything that a human does to create our collaborative artwork.
